News – August 25 2010:  At 4:10pm on August 18th 2010 the 16 riders of the Cycle 20Ten ride rolled into Washington Beach in Anacortes, Washington and finished their cross country ride.  It was a long and uber epic journey, as you know if you’ve been following along.  In addition to actually making it to the Pacific, we also raised over $20,000 for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. You can check out photos or catch up on the final blog entries.

Our Cause: This summer we’re raising money for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and subsequently we did a video about our partnership. It just posted on YouTube, check it out:

News – August 6th 2010: The Cycle20Ten crew left the spectacular Glacier National Park on August 5 after 3 days off for hiking and rest. They began the last 2 weeks of their adventure with mixed emotion – anxious to see family and friends at home, but not wanting the remarkable experience to end. As Chapel Hill swelters, the crew encounters snow capped mountains and cooler weather at the high elevations as they climb miles long ascents with exhilarating descents through the Rocky and Cascade Mountains.

Cycle20Ten crew in Minneapolis

Background of Who We Are: Welcome to the Cycle20Ten tour page. Who are we you may ask? Well we are a crew of Scouts from Troop 845 and students from Chapel Hill, NC getting ready for an absolutely epic bike ride from Aberdeen Maryland to Anacortes, Washington. It started in 2005 when a crew from Chapel Hill rode from San Francisco to Norfolk Virginia and was followed in 2007 by another crew of high schoolers riding coast to coast on the Northern Tier of the US (The Wabu Cycle Tour). Now the excitement has built once again and this summer 10 students, 2 guides, and a number of cross country cyclist alumni are heading out to what is shaping up to be an absolutely epic ride.

In 2007 our crew rode for the Lineberger Cancer here at UNC and raised $18,000 for cancer research. We’ll be at it again this summer and collecting funds for Lineberger. (click here to donate now) We’ll leave on June 13th and spend the next 10 weeks riding west for 3700 miles and along the way we’ll cruise through the farmlands of Indiana Illinois and Iowa, stop in the Twin Cities for a bit, roll the Badlands of South Dakota, explore the Lewis and Clark National Forest, and finish on the epic passes of the Cascades.
